The Directorate is founded by the Ministry of Transport, the Government of St.Petersburg and the Government of Leningrad region in order to provide for coordinated development of the transport system in both regions and for the purpose of implementation of the Programme for development of the St.Petersburg and Leningrad region transport system till 2020 in the following areas: regional aviation, railway and light railway transport, logistics and interchange hubs, development of road network, public transport and intellectual transport systems, improvement of traffic safety.
