The opening of the 12th Transport of Russia International forum and Exhibition took place in Gostiny Dvor

The opening of the 12th Transport of Russia International forum and Exhibition was held in Gostiny Dvor on November 20, 2018. The forum is the largest event of the industry where heads of federal and regional ministries, transport authorities, heads of regions, members of the Russian Federation Government, senior executives of the largest Russian and foreign companies engaged in transport and related industries, scientists, representatives of public organizations and banking sector traditionally take part. At the opening ceremony, welcome speeches were given to participants and key points to address within the forum were defined.

Forum “Transport of Russia” is intended to facilitate discussions of the topical issues of transport development, and serves a platform for consideration of the key points of the industry development, among which digitalization holds a prominent place. “The level of digitalization of the transport system is going to be the obvious factor of its success in the future. New user experience is currently emerging both on the customer’s and on the supplier’s sides,” said Yevgeny Dietrich, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.

The Minister defined the mission of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation as establishment of the “green transport corridor” – unified digital platform based on the Russian-made software operating on the one-stop shop principle.

“We are starting a long-distance run. It requires endurance, patience and desire to win,” said Mr. Dietrich. “I encourage you to use the following three days as a warm-up before this marathon.”

As part of the business program of Transport of Russia”, participants plan to discuss upgrading of fleet and industrial infrastructure in general, implementation of advanced technologies using the mechanisms of public-private partnership. State and business comprise a potential force application point creating a synergy effect on development of Russia in general.

Sergey Ivanov, Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, spoke at the opening ceremony reporting the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the forum participants. The President emphasized that seamless operation of the transport complex is crucial for development of the regions and the country as a whole, quality of life and well-being of people, that is why development and improving competitive power of transport should be given special attention.

Transport is among the top-priority issues in the May Decree of the President of Russia “On National Goals and Strategic Objectives Behind Development of the Russian Federation Until 2024”, which is to be implemented on the basis of extensive use of digital technologies. This was noted by Dmitry Mezentsev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, who indicated in his speech that development of the transport industry is impossible without adequate law and expressed his wish that further cooperation on formation of the legal framework would be as successful as until that day.

Development of the transport system is the top priority for the state. Yevgeny Dietrich gave an important message for participants of the forum: “Seeing an image of a floating ship is one thing. The ability to look beyond the horizon and see more is quite another. It is difficult to predict what transport will be in 15 or 20 years but we can be guided by the image that we want to see as we go forward.”
