The issues of transport digitalization were discussed at the plenary discussion of the “Transport of Russia”

The plenary discussion that opened the 12th International Forum “Transport of Russia” was devoted to the discussion of logistics, implementation of new technologies and work with innovations and startups. Special attention was given to transport digitalization. Among the panelists were officials of the industry and top-managers of the leading companies of the transport sector. Victor Parakhin, Deputy CEO, ZashchitaInfoTrans, Member of Digital Transport and Logistics Association, moderated the discussion.

Digitalization has become an integral part of transportation services, it is this that opens up new opportunities for the growth of industry and economy in general. Participants of the session discussed the state police in the field of digital transformation. Maxim Akimov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, paid attention to the global character of the ongoing changes. “Any global company will have to face the challenge – the challenge of doing away with the traditional models. These are brand-new business models that change positions of players and the cost of the final product,” he noted.

Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board, focused on the resources that the company works with in his speech. “Resources are the most important thing that we carry. Without resources, neither the country, nor the economy will develop, that is why every unit of cargo is vital for us.” According to Belozerov, digitalization is the process that unites different modes of transport. Verification of data, transparency and accuracy of information are paramount to work in this field.

Vitaly Saveliev, CEO, Aeroflot - Russian Airlines, presented some visible changes brought about by digitalization. According to him, labor productivity has grown by 2.6 comparing to 2009. In 2009, digitalization level of the company was assessed at around 35%, while today it is approaching 100%. Due to all this, the service can be maintained on the top level and allows to do things which are still in their infancy in other companies. “We actively use our patented device designed to provide flight attendants with all necessary information regarding the flight and passengers. Everything is recorded in this system. So be assured that when you are asked for your last name onboard a plane, it’s a mere formality.”

PJSC Aeroflot airlines places high stakes on artificial intelligence and plans to further move in two directions: forecasting repairs depending on the aircraft's route, as well as forecasting of ticket prices in this or that region. Today, Aeroflot is the fourth largest company in the world in terms of digitalization.

Anton Zamkov, CEO, RT-Invest Transport Systems. made interesting comments. In the course of discussing Platon system, he indicated that the system made the first step in freight traffic digitalization. “The systems constantly transmits the data from more than 1 million of onboard devices, and the data is identified by users which ensures stable recording of road information equal to 2 million of transactions per day.” Mr. Zamkov characterizes Platon as an excellent example of a platform solution helping to solve various tasks, starting from allocation of buses during the World Cup to administration of traffic violations around the entire country.

Kirill Varlamov, Director, Internet Initiatives Development Fund, presented the idea to develop a standard of work with innovations: “The main setback for companies is underdeveloped corporate culture and motivation complex. I encourage large corporations to consciously approach formation of the strategy designed to work with innovation projects. It is as critical as conventional marketing strategies.” The essence of the proposal is in description of fundamental processes to be introduced in a company to enable it to work innovations without problems.

Yevgeny Dietrich, Minister of Transport, Russian Federation, summed up the plenary discussion. According to him, the main goal of digitalization is to forecast people’s wishes. “The world is changing so fast that we all need to move fast just to stay on one place. I encourage to start this movement right now.” The Minister suggested to establish a special committee that would pick up new ideas and technologies and introduce them in specific systems.
