First day conferences of the 12th Transport of Russia International forum: Digitalization and modernization of all modes of transport

The second half of the first day of the 12th Transport of Russia International forum and exhibition included a number of conferences devoted to maritime and river transport, regional aviation, road industry and its digitalization.

Participants of the industry conference “Maritime and river transport as a system element of the backbone infrastructure” discussed measures to enhance the competitiveness of water transport and attract investments in the industry. According to Igor Levitin, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, more accessible and safe river transport will facilitate development of inland river routes and decrease the load on land transport designed for passenger transportation.

Participants and guests of the conference were invited to answer the question of what, in their opinion, has hampered efficient fleet operation in 2018. For river fleet, the majority of respondents determined such factors as nonuniform competitive conditions, and for maritime fleet – administrative barriers and duplicate requirements of the law. Mr. Igor Levitin believes that solving this problems requires enhancing responsibility on each level.

Competitiveness of fleet and ports was discussed during the talk on drivers and challenges to the domestic shipbuilding industry. Talking about interaction with water transport of other countries, Pavel Sorokin, Deputy Minister of Energy, Russian Federation, noted that there must be a reason for foreign watercrafts to enter Russian ports. For example, reduction of administrative barriers may be a stimulus to take on fuel.

Participants of the conference “Public road system. Digitalization” discussed digital platforms in the road sector. The conference speakers shared their developments in ensuring road traffic safety and regional implementation of information and technology support (ITS). A number of reports covered BIM technologies – a complete informative description of a facility under construction. BIM models of the Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD) and the Eastern High-Speed Diameter (EHSD) in Saint Petersburg are examples of this type of technology.

Vyacheslav Seden, Vice-President, Federal Technology Company (FTK), presented his report raising the issue of machine learning and artificial intelligence efficiency in planning and allocation of tasks and resources. According to him, these technologies will facilitate forecasting applications for service and repair, automated routing of mobile teams, automated distribution of applications between specialists. “Digital technologies give us convenience, transparency, efficiency,” he said.

At the conference “Regional aviation as a system element of the backbone infrastructure”, representatives of Rosaviatsiya stressed the necessity of governmental support for renewal of aircraft fleet. Aircraft is a complex vehicle, and its developers must timely response to changes of the digital environment. The conference considered subsidizing air transportation and the need for development of airport infrastructure.

The issues of industry education and training of personnel were raised at the industry conferences of the first day – new technology platforms need a new type of technology-savvy workers.
