Transport Week 2012 set to bring together the best representatives of the transport industry for the sixth time
Transport Week 2012 will take place in Gostiny Dvor, Moscow, from 3 to 8 December 2012. This will be the sixth time that leading experts in the transport industry get together at the same discussion and exhibition venue under the auspices of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport to take part in a range of business, scientific, social and cultural events.
What makes Transport Week unique is that it is the only industry event that brings together representatives of all the different types of transport without exception. This means they can set up a dialogue that looks at transport issues in the round and take decisions on a system-wide basis.
The delegates include representatives of relevant state management bodies, major transport companies, the scientific community and public organisations. The event is organised by Business Dialogue. This year Transport Week is sponsored by Russian Railways, Vnesheconombank, NCSP Group and MDS Group.
The biggest participants are: the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), the Federal Highway Agency (Rosavtodor), the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya), the Avtodor, Rosmorport, Sovcomflot, USK Most, UralVagonZavod and Transas companies, and the Government of Novosibirsk Region.
Transport Week has long been one of the most important events of the year for the international transport community. In the six years that have passed since the first forum was held, the Russian transport system has developed in unison with the entire economy of the country and the world. All the changes that have happened in the industry over these years, the new trends, the introduction of modern technologies and the efforts to maintain the capacity of the workforce, have featured in the discussions of the Transport of Russia exhibitions and forums.
The importance of these discussions was confirmed by last year’s results: Transport Week-2011 saw about 1,500 representatives of business involved in discussing important issues regarding the functioning and development of Russia’s transport system and also its continuing integration into the global transport system. Representatives of almost 450 media organisations reported the events that took place.
This year, interest in the International Exhibition Transport of Russia, which will take place as part of Transport Week, has proved to be so high that its displays will cover an area of 3,500 square metres.
The international exhibition Transport of Russia, the international congress Road Traffic Russia 2012, the Russian Spartakiade for Transport Students, and TranspArt 2012, events that traditionally are part of Transport Week, will be joined by a Youth Forum, which will take place on the last working day of Transport Week in an informal format.
The key event of Transport Week 2012:
The VI International Forum Transport of Russia (6–8 December).
The keynote theme of the forum will be “Updating the 2030 transport strategy: innovation-led, accessible and environmentally friendly transport”.
Maxim Sokolov, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, speaking recently in the “government hour” at a session of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, reported that the Ministry of Transport had set itself the objective of drawing up in the very near future an updated Transport Strategy for the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030, which was prompted not only by the “internal” need but also by external factors. After an extensive public discussion the Ministry of Transport will submit its proposals to the Government by the end of the year.
Those taking part in the forum will be able to contribute to the discussion of this strategic document, which will be of fundamental significance for the transport industry.
