5th Spartakiad Games of Transport University Students of Russia

Transport Week 2013 will feature the 5th Spartakiad Games of Transport University Students of Russia, which will take place in Moscow from 29 November to 2 December.

The Games, which go back five years, have become an exciting student tradition annually bringing together athletes representing all Russia’s transport universities. The organisers of this unique project are Business Dialogue LLC and the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

This year, 823 athletes will compete in six sports: volleyball, basketball, futsal, table tennis, chess and swimming, 605 of them coming from other cities of Russia.

The Games will be held on the fields of the Moscow transport universities: the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction Institute (MADI) will host the volleyball pre-finals, futsal games will be played at Moscow State Technical University of Civil Aviation (MGTU GA), whereas the preliminary rounds in swimming, table tennis and basketball, as well as finals in swimming and four other sports, will be held at Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT). Teams of professional referees accredited by relevant sports federations of Russia will officiate at the Spartakiad events.

The MIIT sports complex on 24 Novosuschevskaya Street will host the awards ceremony. Senior officials of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, federal agencies, rectors and representatives of the country’s transport universities will present the awards and prizes. The ceremony will feature performances by the MIIT cheerleaders, two-time Moscow champions in 2011 and 2012, and the MIIT artistic gymnastics team, Moscow champions many times over.

The organisers will present not only medals, certificates and cups to the winners and runners-up, but also special prizes to the universities topping the medals table: they will be awarded large-screen TVs and a satellite TV package.

To be eligible for the Games, the athletes must be full-time students of a Russian transport university and have filed preliminary applications. The official website of the event is
